Some Milestones Can Pass By Without You Noticing

It’s something every parent hears… “they grow up so fast.”
And yet, nothing quite prepares you for just how true it is. And often you don’t realise, until it’s happened!

One minute you’re deep in the early newborn days, and the next you’re watching your baby sit, crawl, walk… and suddenly they’re off to school.

These stages don’t happen with a loud announcement. They slip by quietly, often unnoticed until they’ve already passed. Sitting up isn’t something that happens in a moment – it’s gradual, over weeks. And then you notice that you are no longer having to prop your baby up – they are strong and tall on their own.

Milestone photography gives you a way to hold onto each stage, exactly as it is, before it changes again.

Why Milestone Photography Matters

Milestones aren’t just about big events. They’re about celebrating each little thing, remembering each stage, and making the most of every moment.

It’s the way your baby makes eye contact for the first time.
The proud smile or belly laugh as they become interested in the world around them.
The tiny details that feel so every-day now, but won’t stay the same for long.

Photography allows you to capture:

  • Who your child is becoming
  • The connection within your family
  • The feeling of this stage in your life

And over time, these images become part of your family’s story. Something your children will one day look back on with love.

The Milestones Worth Capturing

You don’t need a photoshoot to capture everything. But certain stages are especially beautiful to preserve.

First Smiles (Around 8 Weeks)

This is often the first time your baby begins to engage with you.
Eye contact, little expressions, the beginnings of personality. It’s subtle, but this is when they start to be more awake, more aware and more engaged.

If you had a newborn session with me, then we could think about a mummy-and-me session to commemorate this time. You get different images, and the session has a different vibe to it, too.

Sitting Up Stage (6–9 Months)

One of the most loved milestones, and one of my favourite session types. Babies are stable, expressive and full of curiosity.

The sitting stage is full of smiles, interaction and those gorgeous chubby baby features that change all too quickly when they head towards becoming a toddler.

First Birthday

A full year of your new family unit, with all the love you have for each other.

Whether you choose a simple family  portrait or a cake smash session, this is a moment worth celebrating. Not just for your baby, but for everything you’ve experienced as a family.

First Steps & Toddler Stage

Movement and independence brings with it determination, sometimes temper tantrums, and lots of fun!

Once they pass 1 year, children are exploring the world, showing independence and developing their own character. Sessions become more playful, natural and full of energy. Whether you choose to come for a second birthday session, or a family portrait, I love to see babies back again as they grow!

Starting School

A huge emotional milestone for both children and parents. How is your baby so big and independent?! Where did the time go?

You will have all the feelings – pride, excitement, and of course you’ll feel a little nervous too. A photoshoot to capture this moment creates a special memory you’ll treasure.

Family Moments & Special Occasions

Some milestones aren’t about age or events – they’re about YOUR timings.

Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, multi-generational portraits, or simply capturing your family as you are right now.

Because sometimes, the most important milestone is being together.

It’s Not About Doing Everything! It’s About Choosing What Matters

There’s no pressure to capture every stage. Your own camera or phone will do the job for many little moments. But sometimes, a milestone deserves more than a phone snap.

For some families, the most important events might be newborn and first birthday.
For others, it’s yearly family portraits.

The most important thing is choosing the moments that matter to YOU, and making the decision to preserve them.
