Choosing the Perfect Cake
Your cake smash session with me at Kerry Jones Photography includes a cake, specially made to complement your chosen theme and colours.
When planning your session, we’ll chat about what style you love. Whether that’s soft pastels, bright and bold colours, or natural, neutral greens and creams. From there, I’ll arrange a beautiful buttercream cake that photographs perfectly and is safe and fun for your baby to dive into.

What Should Your Baby Wear?
The only thing you’ll need to bring along is your baby, and if you want a special outfit to be included, that too! However, I do have a selection of clothes that you can borrow, including tutus for girls, dungarees for boys, and some other really cute outfits! Often, parents have bought something special to mark their baby’s first birthday, so including this makes your cake smash session even more personal and meaningful.
If you’re bringing your own, your baby’s outfit should be comfortable, simple, and fit the theme of your chosen setup. Some ideas that always work beautifully include:
Simple rompers or nappy covers for a classic look that will never date.
Tutus for girls or soft overalls for boys to add a bit of character.
Bare chested and a bowtie for a fun, playful vibe.
I recommend avoiding busy patterns or logos so the focus stays on your baby’s expressions and those adorable cake-covered hands and toes.

Picking a Theme That Fits You and Your Baby
Choosing a theme is where your cake smash really starts to feel like it’s personal to you. I provide all the decorations, props, and backdrops, so all you need to do is decide on the overall look and feel.
Whether you know exactly which colours and props you want, or you are happy to be led by me, together we will design something beautiful that your baby will enjoy being a part of and you will love to display at home.
When choosing your theme, think about:
- What colours or styles suit your home (so your final images look perfect when displayed)
- What your baby loves right now — animals, rainbows, stars, or certain colours
- Whether you prefer something natural and neutral, or bright and playful
Finishing with a SPLASH!
Once the cake has been well and truly smashed, we finish with a fun bubble bath session. Babies absolutely love this part — it’s a great way to clean up and capture a few more smiley moments before we wrap up.
